Imagine Leila, a bourgeois-girl from Bucharest facing a very difficult situation because her family imposes her a fiance. Then, think of Lilly from Athens, who is torn between her love for the hot-tempered gypsy Mirka and her love for Paulo the rich factory director. Last, look at Aishe from Istanbul, who does not dare to give in to the young man who's in love with her, because her ex-lover, a criminal behind bars, will seek revenge...

The Birthday Party... or a silent Balkan story... give an idea of what cinema was like in the Balkans between 1900 and 1930, the era of silent movies.

A documentary made out of little stories that show enormous resemblances from country to country, using as its only tool the silent cinema language. A travel via cinematography in the Balkans today, that projects more the elements that unite the people in the area, than those still separating them.
